New article: History of Modifications

Post by zoNE »

A new article has appeared: History of modifications for the Original War game. With patch 1.03 - created on November 29, 2005 - official mod support was introduced into the game. However, mods in the form of datadisk files had been created practically from the very beginning - whether in the form of an attempt by Czechs to recreate the Arabian Campaign or a simple map for fighting against the computer.

They say nothing ever truly disappears from the Internet… Unfortunately, for many mods, time has caused them to vanish from the web for long periods. That's when the idea of MODBase was born in my mind - a section where I have tried to archive all the copies of modifications I possessed that had previously disappeared from free uploaders, ensuring that knowledge about them would not be lost.

In this article, I have similarly decided to commemorate all modifications, along with a short description based on available materials, showing what each project was, annotations about its authors, available language version, supported gameplay mode, factions, and the number of missions, as well as a rating to help determine which of them might appeal to you.

From the more than 100 mods created over the years, I hope I have managed to include most of them here. However, if you are the creator of a modification that has been omitted for some reason or have not yet sent me the latest versions for publication, let me know in a private message, and I will update them both in MODBase and in the historical list above - so that, over time, their memory does not fade!
